Enjoying summer?

Image
Are you enjoying summer? Eating fresh fruits and vegetables and getting enough sun. Just not too much to get a burn. That's good, since autumn follows and not far behind either. Let's enjoy the sunshine. My poem for today is about the season that follows. Read it and I hope you'll recognize how it starts to show up. Autumn Autumn weaves itself into summer nights ushers in cool air the first chance it gets           changes greens to splendid reds and yellows          nips the roses still in bud          steals kisses from the sun Autumn whispers to migrating birds encourages squirrels to fill their homes with food Autumn slips in so skillfully that it’s hard to tell just when summer ends and autumn begins

Is this summer now?

Our spring season here in southwestern Ontario seemed slow to arrive. It's been cool with a late snow, but now it's been getting warmer. The first day of summer approaches. The poem I share today is about a balloon. It reminds me of a day at market when my eldest was about four or five. I bought one for her at market—a multi-coloured one—that excited her. I must have handed her the string, and because we'd be going in the house, said, "Hold on tight."  While I unbuckled her little sister, the older one loosened her grip on the balloon string and off it went, up into the clear blue sky. We watched it go higher and higher and my daughter's eye...

Near the end of winter

Our winter is on its way out, I think. Signs of spring show up weekly. Buds on trees, a sighting of robins, green stems in the garden where flowers bloomed last spring. I'm ready for the warmth of spring and the promise of new growth.  Having said that does not mean an end to the snow and cold temperatures just yet. How I wish I had a photo to show this, but you'll have to imagine it through my words. This little poem was published by Good Times magazine several years ago and I still like it. I hope you do too.   Indigo Ocean Streetlights trail the sinking February sun even their glow cannot dim the sky tonight a vivacious quarter moon   blooms beyond its borders a jet winks and streaks past glittering stars sprinkled over an ocean   of indigo ink
